About the Artist
Michael Clark was born in Ayr in 1959 and studied at the Edinburgh College of Art (ECA), graduating in 1983. He worked for the BBC in Glasgow after graduating before moving to London in 1989 to work as a freelance art director and illustrator. He describes his move to London as transformative in his artistic journey, ‘a terrific melting pot, full of possibilities.’ During this period, Clark continued painting and was selling highly successfully. After collecting and building his portfolio, Clark moved with his family back to Scotland, where he painted full time and with great success and acclaim, exhibiting throughout the UK, in London, Suffolk, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Oxford. Clark takes inspiration from traditional Scottish Colourist traditions and from his travels throughout France, particularly in Provence, Paris and Bordeaux, evident in his oeuvre. With his blend of tradition and unique style and technical focus on light and shadow, Michael is therefore considered as one of Scotland’s most popular and renowned painters.
