Term 1

Advancing from ‘SEEING like an artist’ to ‘THINKING like an artist’

We explore the power of Lost Edges in drawing and painting. This term introduces theories and techniques of Oil painting, as well as continuing to build skills in watercolour, gouache, pastel and acrylic. In our drawing development we move to drawing from life, drawing objects in front of us and working on observation skills

Term 2

A Focus on exploring painting ‘The Glory of White’

We will be developing oil painting skills this term, at the same time as learning how to perceive value and subtle colour when painting white objects and landscapes. We will also look at how white can be used in other mediums. Our sketchbooks will be used to develop skills drawing from life, this time using a variety of pens.

Term 3

Introducing Texture and Painting with knives

We will be piling the paint on this term, using texture mediums and exploring how texture can enhance a painting. Working across the different mediums throughout the term but with an emphasis on using palette knives and working with acrylics. We will be taking our Sketchbooks outside for the first time this term, building confidence drawing outdoors.
