Level 2 is divided into 3 terms, each term has ten progressive lessons.
Term 1 focuses on exploring the basic principles of PERSPECTIVE. We will be exploring the use of single and double point perspective for landscape drawing. Starting with basic concepts of perspective we will develop to completing a complex painting using double point perspective. We will work using ‘Pen and Wash’. Different pen techniques, including using waterproof pens and white pens, will be taught through the term alongside developing watercolour skills. This term we will be introducing using watercolour tube paints and introduce several new watercolour techniques. Throughout the term we will be developing sketching skills working with pen.
Term 2 is all about COMPOSITION. We teach the importance of the ‘Rule of Third’ and about using value and intensity to highlight the Focal Point. This term we use Pastels, introducing this vibrant and popular medium and developing skills and techniques through the term. Drawing skill development will focus on drawing animals and using compositional techniques to think about shading.
Term 3 continues to develop knowledge of COLOUR THEORY and using value to dimensionalise shape. We will be working in ACRYLIC paints. This term puts together the skills developed over the previous 5 terms whilst exploring analogous colour theory. Drawing skills continue to be developed with weekly sketching exercises focused on searching for light and shadow to create a 3 dimensional form.

Thank you. I’m looking forward to starting Level 2 soon. In the meantime I’ll finish off the last part of Level 1 and repeat a few that I found quite challenging, eg the dragonfly (looked like a plane) and Amsterdam houses and possibly the Japanese castle (I added an extra level on for some reason). I used to love art during my childhood but haven’t really carried it through to adulthood and as you have stated you have to practice whenever possible. Best wishes to everyone there.

I have loved level 1 and am looking forward to starting level 2.
I also found the Amsterdam houses tricky – especially the canal. Have just completed the Monet inspired ‘Poppy Field’. I’ve painted it twice and there is still room for improvement!
However, onward and upward, as they say!

Very much enjoyed level 2 but admit, it was difficult at times. However, I feel this is all part of the learning process. Looking forward to level 3.
