About the Artist
Originally from Ayrshire, MacDonald studied at the Edinburgh College of Art, graduating in 1970, before working in advertising and design in Glasgow. Around 2007, he returned to painting full time, focusing on landscape and still life’s. Macdonald paints with an incredibly unique artistic style, blending luminous layered brushwork with a keen sensitivity to light and atmosphere. Macdonald is currently based in Ayrshire and has increasingly worked in acrylics, developing a more abstract style. Macdonald describes his work as something incredibly versatile, ‘I have been known to paint anything that moves and lots of things that don’t, in watercolour, oils or acrylic.’ Macdonald’s work has been collected and exhibited in exhibitions such as the Maclaurin Gallery, Paisley Art Institute and Strathcarron Gallery Jim Wylie Jim Wylie, a Glasgow native and graduate of the Glasgow School of Art, brings rich and vivid colour into his Scottish landscapes. Having moved from art education as Principal Teacher of Art at Kilmarnock Academy to painting full time in 2001, Wylie’s work is defined by its strong vibrant hues and unique visual perspective. Drawing inspiration from Ayrshire’s coastal harbours, rolling hills and rural areas, his paintings mix technical precision and carefully organised compositions. Wylie’s style varies from painting to painting, occasionally working with pastels on site, sometimes from photographs and increasingly, from iPad drawings. He has earned continual exhibition success across independent galleries around Scotland and recognition from the Paisley art Institute.
