About the Artist
Jody Kelly is a self-taught Scottish painter whose work captures fleeting moments of life that are easy to overlook. Working primarily in acrylics, he creates bold and richly coloured compositions which hover between the real and the surreal. With a background in illustration and design, Kelly has a sharp eye for detail, colour and composition. He began painting seriously in 2010, developing a distinct style that captures snapshots of life. The approach Kelly has to his paintings is to create these snapshots from life that, when taken out of context and displayed as a piece of art, capture an unusual and unique moments in time that is surreal, but not unreal. Many of Kelly’s paintings depict children, during the heat of summer, running, swimming or in action. He maintains a sense of play throughout his work, an artist marked by refreshingly candour and optimism.
