About the Artist
David Bellamy is a renowned watercolour artist, teacher and author. Born in Pembroke, David paints directly from nature and travels widely in search of mountainous and remote locations for his landscapes, fascinated by the natural world in its various moods. He is particularly celebrated for his wild coastal scenes and mountainous landscapes and intensely emotive depictions of nature. Bellamy’s work takes inspiration from the sublime, often depicting the isolated natural world; mountains, glaciers and coastal scenes recurring throughout his body of work. He uses primarily watercolour to capture the mood for these wild remote locations, providing a certain spontaneity to the subject matter. Bellamy describes that his paintings ‘often show signs of being done in the pouring rain, washes frozen into intricate patterns, mud-spattered, and even one or two blood-stained.’ He has published twenty one books since 1983 which record his experiences in Middle Eastern deserts, African jungles and Arctic waters.
